Types of Hacking

There are generally 4 types of hacking attacks :

1. Snooping
2. Vandalism
3. Theft
4. Sabotage

   1. Snooping

   Snooping means gaining access into a network then mapping out all the systems and PCs on that network.

   This task is actually legitimate -- when it is done by system administrators or computer security personnel. Unfortunately, snooping is normally the first sign that your network is going to be penetrated

   2. Vandalism

   Normally, vandalism refers to the de-facing of webpages. Although this is often the most spectacular of hacks, it is often the one that causes the least real damage. The purpose, after all, is to embarrass the company/organisation (see Department of Justice hacked site) or to publicize the skills of the hacker.
